A claim is, “A demand for something due or believed to be due”, usually the result of an action or direction.
A claim can be defined as a request for additional financial compensation and/or a request for a time extension. Most claims are resolved at the project level by negotiation between the parties themselves. A claim that cannot, or is not, resolved by negotiation at the project level becomes a dispute. Unresolved claims can be adjudicated through adversarial techniques such as arbitration or litigation, or by using less adversarial methods such as mediation.
The most commonly used technique is Time Impact Analysis or (TIA). The time impact analysis methodology, also referred to as TIA, is a technique that forecasts or predicts a delay’s effect on a project’s completion date. This schedule analysis method involves the insertion or addition of activities indicating delays or changes into the most recent schedule update prior to the delay event’s occurrence. This allows the analyst to determine the impact of a delay activity or series of delay activities on the project’s completion date.
